Loyalty, deception, honesty, and death.

These factors in Tracey’s life have taken her from an innocent teenager to a strong-minded young adult when she took the leap that no human or Sephlem would dare to. And while none of the promised perils have materialized, her strength has yet to be tested. Now, the secrets behind the midnight eyes of her mate have started to come to light, and this unbalanced truth affects her, her parents, and what’s left of her friends.

When her mate’s mother gets abducted and everyone leaves to find her, Tracey’s left to fend for herself.  She finds peace in finally being alone without the bond of her mate overwhelming her. She revels in a freedom that she has tried to obtain since mating. But it is short lived. She wakes, bound and blindfolded, awaiting a torturous greeting from an unlikely foe... Someone who has an appetite for vengeance.

The Burdened has rule over Nathan's life, over him, and the more he fights it, it prevails. But rescuing his mate and his mother is a dead cert, and Nathan will destroy anything and anyone who stands in his way.

A prophecy has set the fate of Nathan and Tracey's relationship and the Sephlem race—their union more significant than either realizes. As the future unfolds and their love is tested, will it endure the deepest pain of their loss?

“If you continue with this unattractive trait, my words will turn into actions and the next time, my snake will bite you in the face.” I test the water and it's hotter than I’d it to be.

“Are you threatening me, Sparks?”

“Yes, Nate. And we need to go to the grocery store.”

My shirt’s pulled over my head and a kiss falls on my shoulder. “For what? Whipped cream and strawberries? Maybe a cupcake so I can lick icing off your finger?” Another kiss tingles the slope of my neck.

I twist around. “Back off. I’m trying to be mad at you.”

“Okay. Backing off. Enjoy your shower. I’m happy to be home with you, baby.” Hugging me, he adds, “I missed you.” Pushing his fingers through my hair, he pulls me to him and kisses me. His caress is inducing, eager, hungry, yet, it's also giving, nourishing, acknowledging of his need for me and the appreciation for my staying.

He kisses me like this until my breaths grow heavy and my body hums. The strength and claim in it fuels my confidence and shifts my innocence into a courage that can seize our world and others if I wanted.

Nathan breaks our kiss. His kiss. I blink, panting, nearly dizzy. “I love how you're coming over your bond. I'm not sure if it's because we were a part for so long or because you're maturing in it. But you're kickass, Sparks. And it's hot.”

I lick my lips and bite back my smile. Before I turn around, I give him a wink.

He smirks and heads out of the bathroom.  “Stop being mad, okay? We’ve been through a lot. But if we stay each other’s enemy, it’ll get worse.” Pulling closed the door, he adds, “I’m sorry. I got your back. Meet me down stairs.”
